Last year when Sean and I got engaged and started to plan our wedding we also came to the point of a wedding registry. While I truly wanted our friends and family to come to our wedding to celebrate with us and not bring a gift, I knew two things.
One, most people want to get a gift for you and would like to know what you want.
Secondly, we were spending a lot on our wedding so replenishing some of our older items would not be possible so soon after the wedding so to have items gifted to us was a blessing.
Because we were older, had lived on our own places for a long time and had a lot of household items already there wasn’t a whole lot of items that we really needed. But, there were some items that we were excited that we could add to our cupboards and older items that we could replace.
A lot of you might be in that same situation. Here is a list of items that I was so grateful to be gifted and items that make me smile everyday when we use them.
- Baking Dishes – I love having several different options for serving. Whether I am cooking a lasagna or simple vegetables having pretty baking dishes ensures I don’t have to transfer food once I have baked it.
- Pots & Pans – While we both came into our marriage with a full set of pots and pans we took this chance to wittle it down to the best and fill in what we had missing. Having some fresh non-stick pans that were of higher quality was a nice addition to our collection.
- Modern Cutting Boards – cutting boards can look old and worn after a few uses. It’s nice to start off in a new household with fresh cutting boards. These marble and wood ones will freshen up any space and are so cute to keep out. They also make a great cheese board when company arrives.
- Ramkins (or any other small kitchen dishes) – Over time smaller items like this became collected and mismatched. While that can be sweet and unique, I wanted a set of matching bowls that could be used for everything from baking to serving. We love making pizzookies in ours!
- 4-Slice Toaster – Ok, you might already have a toaster, but we needed to upgrade the size of ours! A four toaster was perfect for our enlarged family.
- Food Processor – I had previously had a smaller food processor that attached to our blender and a really old outdated one. Get a brand new spanking one that works like a dream makes cooking more fun.
- Knives – Like our pots and pans, we both had a number to choose from. But, we had some major pieces that were missing, old or worn, so we registered for some new ones. This chefs knife is our favorite tool right now.
- Kitchenaid Ice-Cream attachment – I happened to have a Kitchenaid mixer already. By far the MOST used machine in our kitchen. Getting a fun ice-cream attachment has been a fun addition and has made summer a little more fun.
- Espresso Machine – I LOVE this! It has cut down our weekend trips to the local coffeehouses because I have been able to brush up on my barista skills and make our own lattes. This was definitely a splurge registry item that I didn’t think we would get, but my brother and his wife surprised us with it. So much fun!
- Silverware – Both of us had sets but mine was all mismatched. This set shown was actually the full set Sean had, we just added more too it to increase how many people could use it. Use this as an opportunity to modernize, complete your current set or get a better quality than the set you currently have.
- Wine Glasses – I think over the years I had broken half of my old glasses and ended up with a bunch of mismatched items. Get a nice new set of 8 makes sure that we can host a party and still have enough glasses for everyone.
- French butter keeper – I don’t know how I’ve gone for almost all my life without one of these. I absolutely LOVE having soft butter for the mornings or dinner. This will keep your butter soft and fresh on your counter for weeks. Definitely a must have in any kitchen.
- Vases – I love fresh flowers and keeping them in the house are a really pleasent way to
- Dinnerware – I used to have Corelle dinnerware in white. I thought that it would last forever since it was so neutral and wouldn’t break. I was right, it lasted for years and it stayed perfect but I got so bored with it! Not having an excuse to change dishes was awful! This time around I got something that might be a little more breakable, but it’s so pretty I was willing to risk it.
- Serving Pieces – Now that we have a bigger family, we have big groups of people that come over a lot. Stocking up on some new serving ware was a must. Take the opportunity to add to your collection or replace some
- Salad Bowls – Having more options for serving has been so nice. In our household, we never know if we will have all 6 of us, or some variation of that. Having several different sizes and options has been perfect.
- Utensil caddy – Having an easy way to store silverware for parties is so nice to have. We keep this stocked with bamboo utensils and tuck it away. We end up pulling it out at least once a week when we are serving dinner to a bigger crowd than just our family.
- Table in a Bag – We love having this roll-up table to take with us to the beach or concerts in the park. It’s perfect for eating at or playing games on while we are camping. Definitely an item that is getting well-used and well-loved.
- Drink Dispenser – The drink dispenser and beverage tub are both perfect items for entertaining and parties. Now that all our siblings and cousins have their own families, our gatherings can get big. Having large beverage servers really help in simplifying our entertaining.
- Beverage tub
- Covered cake server – This platter in particular was in the Crate & Barrel store 20 years ago when I first got married. It’s a classic and it won’t go out of style. It looks so pretty on your counter and can be used for everything from muffins to cakes and pies.
- Sheets – These last four items are just a given. Start your new marriage with new linens for your bed. Trust me, it’s worth it.
- Bedding
- Pillows
- Towels
Of course, if you are like me, having guests just being able to come to your wedding and celebrate with you is all you need. But, if they happen to want to bring a gift, hopefully this list will help guide your choices for your wedding registry. Congratulations!

These are great picks not only for weddings, but any occasion. I could use this as reference when I do my Christmas shopping in a few months.
