For the last week or so I’ve been sick and trying to kick a bad cold. Because of being down under the weather, I’ve been really needing an extra boost in the morning to get me going (because life goes on!). I’ve had the ingredients around the house for awhile to make some DIY shower bombs and now seemed like the perfect time to use them. I love using essential oils and use them almost every day. Because I needed a lot of them to add fragrance in this shower bombs that would just melt into my shower I ended up ordering some less expensive oils but feel free to use whatever oils you already have on hand.
While these shower bombs take awhile to dry (8 hours or so), they are really easy to make. One batch will fill one of these silicone trays almost perfectly. And, using a silicone tray like this makes popping out the dry batch super easy.
What you need:
a small bowl
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 cup baking soda
1 tablespoon water
30 drops of essential oils
silicon tray (I love the shaped one that I got, but you could use any shape you want)
The key to mixing this up is to be super careful when adding the water. The first batch I made I added the whole tablespoon of water at once and it created a fizzing mess that didn’t stop growing! So, my next and more successful batch turned out perfectly.
First, add all the dry ingredients together, citric acid, baking soda and cornstarch in a small bowl. After mixing that, sprinke in the drops of essential oil. Depending on your fragrance or brand, you might need to add more or less, so add slowly while you mix and sniff often! Once all your frangrance is mixed in, sprinkle in some of the water and stir. Add more water as needed until your dry ingredients look like wet sand.
Once mixed, spoon into mold and pat firm. Let dry for 8 hours or overnight and then pop out of molds. Store in a covered container so shower bombs stay dry.
Use the shower bombs to give yourself a little pick-up during your showers and either wake you up in the mornings (sweet orange), or calm you down in the evenings (lavendar). Place it in the way of the running water and they will last for one shower, place it out of the water and it will last 2-3 showers.
These were the perfect way for me to get energized after being sick, but this will definitely continue because they are heavenly.
